Emma Critchley’s underwater photography focuses on the human relationship with water and its diverse nature. The inspiration behind her work comes from a fascination with an environment within which humankind cannot exist naturally. Emma is intrigued by the way in which we as land based animals, interact with such a space.

After gaining a first class degree in Photography from the University of Brighton, Emma’s series Portraits were widely acclaimed, winning a number of awards, including the Association of Photographer's Student Award, as well as being exhibited within the National Portrait Gallery's Portrait Prize. Since then, over the last four years, her work has been recognised internationally, with shows in Canada and Australia, including an exhibition at The Australian Centre for Photography and a solo show in London. Her work has been published in a number of magazines worldwide including Australian Art Monthly, AN Magazine, Image magazine and HotShoe International. In 2008 Emma’s work has been exhibited in eight shows across London, including an Arts Council funded exhibition The Fear of Falling, a collaboration with Sophie Lewis, at London Bridge.
